Introduction to the Blog

Not interested in the stories? Scroll down for TL;DR.

My name is Bonnie Fine, and I’m writing this blog as a resource that I wish I had when I was planning my travels. I’m a Certified Sommelier (CMS) and a Certified Specialist of Wine (SWE), and most of my travels have been to places that have a wine industry (luckily there are a lot)!

But I’m less interested in Napa, Burgundy or Bordeaux (and I don’t have the budget for it anyway) – I’m interested in the underdogs – the overlooked, the oft-under appreciated; the places where you’ll be hard pressed to find a tour bus. The places I have been that are more mainstream, I try to find experiences that are more in line with my style – local, lesser known, and low key.

Whether you are a wine novice or a self described oenophile, this blog can help you when planning a trip somewhere that has a wine industry. The purpose of this blog is to show you a variety of ways to explore wine regions. I’ll share the resources I use, knowledge about each region + what to expect from the wines, and the specific wineries I visited in each place. This is by no means meant to be an exhaustive guide on each region, just one person’s experience.

TL;DR

  • This blog is focused on the lesser known wine regions – these regions often have a lot of other draws (nature, history, etc) but typically are not big cities.
  • Everything in this blog is based on my experience. Please utilize other resources as well, including the ones listed here (link to resources)
  • I’m a Certified Sommelier (CMS) and Certified Specialist of Wine (SWE) – all this means is I know how much left there is to learn about wine
